Research groups at the
Institute for Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences
This research group investigates emissions and atmospheric processes of volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The main focus is set on biogenic VOCs such as terpenes, which contribute significantly by number and mass to tropospheric aerosol formation. In this area there are currently significant gaps in various fields. In our research we aim to contribute to closure and to improve the current knowledge.
The research group investigates physical and chemical processes in the atmosphere. The focus is on experimental research in the fields of clouds and aerosols, budgets of atmospheric trace gases and atmospheric transport.
Central focus of the group "Theory of Atmospheric Dynamics and Climate" is the dynamics of the atmosphere. Special emphasis is given to the interaction between different scales and atmosphere layers. These fields are important both in the development of efficient climate models, and in the improvement of weather forecast models. The research relies on the devlopment of systematic model hierarchies, intended to provide an optimal understanding of the basic mechanisms at work.
